A Place Called Here

Learning about how one organisation has created community support for people bereaved by suicide.

For our Creating Hope Together Conference 2025, we invited organisations to submit a poster for over 300 delegates to view. Each focuses on a project underpinned by the principles of Time Space Compassion. You can find all of the posters here.

Community support for people bereaved by suicide

What we’ve done and how it embodies Time Space Compassion

We created a community support group for individuals bereaved by suicide and those struggling with suicidal thoughts. Our approach centres on offering non-judgemental time, emotional space, and compassionate listening, ensuring everyone feels valued and heard.

We hold regular support meetings, holistic self-care events, and peer-led sessions tailored around connection, empathy, and hope. This work embodies Time, Space, Compassion by responding at the pace and need of each individual, fostering trust, dignity, and human connection as a foundation for healing

Who we worked with

We worked closely with individuals bereaved by suicide, those with lived experience of mental health challenges, local wellbeing practitioners, and community organisations promoting holistic wellbeing.

How people felt

Participants described feeling seen, valued, and less isolated. Many expressed that the space allowed them to grieve openly, find hope again, and build resilience. We as facilitators felt deepened empathy, renewed purpose, and a sense of meaningful connection

What we learnt

We learned that small acts of kindness, presence, and patience can make a life-saving difference. Participants gained coping tools, peer support networks, and an increased sense of belonging and empowerment.

What difference it made

This work reduced stigma, encouraged conversations about suicide and mental health, and helped participants move from surviving to healing. It also shaped how we view community care, teaching us the importance of consistency and authentic compassion.
