Fife Health & Social Care Partnership
Learn about the development of new multi agency resources focusing on young people, with Time Space Compassion a key part of this work.
For our Creating Hope Together Conference 2025, we invited organisations to submit a poster for over 300 delegates to view. Each focuses on a project underpinned by the principles of Time Space Compassion. You can find all of the posters here.
New multi agency resources focusing on young people
What we’ve done and how it embodies Time Space Compassion
We are aiming to embed Time Space Compassion throughout the implementation of the Fife Suicide Prevention Action Plan:
Incorporating the Time Space Compassion approach to the recently refreshed Fife Multiagency Guidance on 'Understanding & Responding to Children & Young People at risk of suicide' and accompanying workshop to support implementation of the guidance
Delivery of a 2-hour Time Space Compassion workshop as part of the Fife Health Promotion Service Training Programme which is supported by a Time Space Compassion Sway that brings together all materials and resources relating to the approach to make it as accessible as possible for staff
Exploring the Time Space Compassion approach as part of a bespoke 1-day training session on 'Recognising & Responding to Suicide Risk' for Fife Justice Services staff. This training is now mandatory for all 170 Justice Service staff
Other opportunities as they arise, such as 'Building Bridges': a project which emerged from the Fife Locations of Concern Group who identified staff working on major bridge structures are regularly exposed to stressful situations, including assisting those in distress and crisis. A bespoke resource was developed for bridge maintenance staff which reflects the principles of Time Space Compassion
Who we worked with
Various groups, partners and stakeholders support our approach to Time Space Compassion in Fife:
CAMHS, Social Work, Education Services, Educational Psychology, School Nursing Service, Health Promotion Service, Barnardo's, the Fife Suicide Prevention Young Person's Reference Group and the Fife Our Minds Matter Steering Group (who deliver on the Fife Children's Services Plan) - all involved in the refresh of the 'Understanding & Responding to Children & Young People at risk of suicide' guidance
Fife Locations of Concern Group: key to the identification, development and delivery of 'Building Bridges'
Fife Suicide Prevention Multiagency Core Group: group responsible for delivery of the Fife Suicide Prevention Action Plan
Fife Justice Service: committed to the 'Recognising and Responding to Suicide Risk' training by making the course mandatory for all 170 members of staff. This work evolved from a presentation delivered on the Fife Suicide Prevention Action Plan to the Fife Community Safety Partnership, one of the strategic Community Planning Groups in Fife
How people felt
The Working Group responsible for the refresh of the 'Understanding & Responding to Children & Young People at risk of suicide' guidance included representation from CAMHS, Social Work, Education Services, Educational Psychology, School Nursing Service, Health Promotion Service and Barnardo's.
The project allowed partners to work together openly and honesty, creating the 'Time' to consider the key information needed by practitioners supporting children and young people; 'Space' to reflect on the barriers and challenges faced by practitioners supporting children and young people; and produce 'Compassionate' guidance which would support practitioners to engage in difficult conversations with children and young people at risk of suicide.
What we learnt
The 'Understanding & Responding to Children & Young People at risk of suicide' guidance was an excellent example of collaboration; demonstrating the importance of working together to identify and overcome challenges and recognising opportunities.
This included the opportunity to showcase the importance of using the Time Space Compassion approach when working with children and young people and is central to the Multiagency Protocol which is the heart of the guidance.
The Working Group responsible for the refresh of the guidance included representation from CAMHS, Social Work, Education Services, Educational Psychology, School Nursing Service, Health Promotion Service and Barnardo's.
What difference it made
The 'Understanding & Responding to Children & Young People at risk of suicide' guidance explores and explains the Time Space Compassion principles, but more importantly, the approach taken by the Working Group itself embodied and reflected the principles, which made the process and experience enjoyable for the Working Group.
