Kooth
Introducing Kooth Digital Health and how it reflects the values of Time Space Compassion.
For our Creating Hope Together Conference 2025, we invited organisations to submit a poster for over 300 delegates to view. Each focuses on a project underpinned by the principles of Time Space Compassion. You can find all of the posters here.
Kooth Digital Health
What we've done and how it embodies Time Space Compassion
Kooth Digital Health embodies the Time-Space-Compassion approach by providing accessible, flexible, and stigma-free mental health support. Here’s how it aligns with each principle:
Time – Kooth offers on-demand support, allowing users to access online mental health resources, self-help tools, and professional support whenever they need it. There are no waiting lists, ensuring that help is available at the moment of need
Space – The platform provides a safe and anonymous online environment, giving users the freedom to express themselves without fear of judgment. This is especially important for young people and vulnerable individuals who may feel uncomfortable seeking face-to-face support
Compassion – Kooth fosters empathy and understanding through trained professionals who offer non-judgmental, person-centred support. The service also includes community features such as peer forums and therapeutic content, promoting a sense of belonging, connection and shared experience
By integrating these elements, and offering choice, Kooth ensures support is available for those looking to maintain wellbeing, feeling worried or low, or needing someone to listen.
Who we worked with
Depending on local commissioning, the Kooth platform can provide support to those 10-26. The Qwell site offers support to those 18+, often provided with a particular focus on parents and carers.
How people felt
Daily feedback on the Kooth and Qwell platforms demonstrates the impact of this safe, accessible, compassionate space, and for staff, "makes it all worth while".
"Thank you so much for your help! I really do appreciate that you’ve put so much time into me and created such a safe space for me to be so honest :))" - SU 21
"Thank you so much for all of your help and time, to feel that someone saw and heard me it has meant a lot to me without judging me but instead making me feel like I can do the hard things without doubting me. Thank you so much." - SU 15
"Every single member of staff on Kooth has been making me feel heard, respected and safe for these years. Thank you so much for being here, for being so...helped me find my hope and my heart. Here I’m not alone on my bad days or my good days, I always feel I have somebody to turn to and talk to." - SU 19
"This app really helps me because with my school being so big with alot of people it can get a bit stressful oh i also show signs of adhd and autism so that makes it harder to get around the school because i get quite frustrated at my teachers when they boss me around too much and this app gives me people to talk to about my struggles with school and things going on at home aswell thank you kooth team xxx" SU 11
What we learnt
"It's all down to having coping strategies that work for me. I did lots of research before coming to Kooth and didn't really find anything that ended up working too well, but Kooth has suggested things that are specific to my condition and do actually work. I find that they're sort of catalysts to building confidence etc. they're a bit like stepping stones I feel like. If my worries are like a river, they're helping me cross it if that makes sense….thank you so much for taking the time to have these assessments with me these last few weeks. I feel miles better because of them!" SU 16
“I found our last chat especially helpful and have been doing better. It was really insightful and I feel I'm understanding myself more. Yeah just making more sense of why I am the way I am and being more self compassionate.” - SU 32
"When I stopped having my counsellor at school I felt a bit lost and someone mentioned kooth to me. You showed me and taught me so much including taught me things about myself which I never knew. You’ve helped me so much with my confidence which I appreciate so much. You showed me what I’m worth and taught me how to look for the positives in life aswell as taught me how to be proud of myself!!" SU 16
What difference it made
"You’re the only reason I’m still here I can’t lie. Having being able to talk to you and having our weekly chats really helps so much so I do want to say a massive thank you." - SU 16
"I felt that it helped a lot about understanding what to do when i get urges to self-harm! Thank you so much for providing me with these services" - SU 11
"I hope you know the profound impact you’ve had on my life. I really don’t think I could have made it through this time without your help. I feel confident I can use the lessons from our conversations and the resources to work through the rest of my life." - SU 24
