Specific services

We provide short-term support for adults in Midlothian who are experiencing mental distress or crisis.

Support is provided by mental health practitioners from Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership and Penumbra.

When you contact our service we’ll have a short, confidential conversation to understand what you’re going through and how we can support you.

You will speak directly with a mental health practitioner. We will listen to what you need and aim to agree a support plan within an hour of your call.

We can offer a range of help, including:

  1. Connect you with local community resources, like peer support groups, volunteering, or help returning to work.

  2. Help you find other local services or charities if you need more specific or longer-term support.

  3. Refer you to the Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) service, if it’s right for you. DBI offers up to 14 days of short-term support to help you manage emotional distress and find longer-term help.

  4. Support you to set goals and build strategies to manage your wellbeing and strengthen your resilience.

  5. Offer practical advice with everyday tasks that may feel overwhelming when you’re struggling.

Hours available

Our services are available 8am - 8pm, 7 days per week.

Additional information

Our service is for anyone aged 18 and over who lives in Midlothian.

You don’t need a referral from your GP or any other professional.

You can contact us directly whenever you need support.

If you are referred to the Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) service, you will receive a wellbeing check-in from a practitioner within 24 hours. Most people then have their first support session within five days of that check-in.

Our service is free of charge.
