Get involved in the next phase of our suicide prevention public awareness campaign
03 Nov 25
Over the course of this year, we’ve built a powerful public awareness campaign, What if a conversation about suicide could save a life?
Now we’re looking to speak to people who may be interested in participating in the next phase of the campaign, due to go live in January 2026.
In April, we launched The Conversation, a nationwide campaign featuring four people with lived and living experiences of suicide.
Seonaid lost her son Dylan to suicide and Clare her nephew Gerry. Laura attempted suicide three times; Ross made a plan to die by suicide.
These four extraordinary people featured in a story-led campaign that modelled how to talk about suicide. Each ambassador also told us how they were able to find hope, when perhaps it seemed lost.
Then in September, we launched the What if Podcast presented by Amy Irons.
Herself bereaved by suicide, Amy was joined by a stellar panel of 12 guests over four powerful episodes exploring what suicide is, how we find hope, the impact of societal issues, and the role of diversity.
Now we’re going again.
The next phase of the campaign will again be co-produced, involving people with lived & living experience of suicide, practice experience and academic expertise.
We’re looking to hear from people who may be interested in appearing in the campaign.
This could include appearing on film, in photography, in adverts that could feature on TV or in out of home locations like roadside, train stations or on buses.
By showing interest at this stage it does not commit you to be involved. Our team will assess interest, with particular consideration given to safeguarding.
As a general rule, we ask that it has been at least two years since your last experience of suicide.
We're looking for people with three types of experiences:
People who are bereaved by suicide
People who have made a suicide attempt, but have now found a way forward
People who have a loved one that they have asked about suicide to intervene in a potential crisis
We’re also looking for a diverse mix of people, to reflect the fabric of Scotland. Men are a crucial group, considering the suicide rates. But we also want to speak to people from marginalised communities.
Ultimately, we’re looking to build a group of four people to come together, in mid-December.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
If you are interested in this project, please email communications@suicideprevention.scot including as much information as you can.
We appreciate that it may be challenging, but it’s important we can understand your experience as clearly as possible.
Please be assured that your email will be strictly confidential and be seen only by the project leads and safeguarding lead.
All emails will be acknowledged, and in some cases we’ll ask to meet with you to talk about your experience to learn more about how we might be able to positively use that in the campaign.
The deadline to get in touch for this campaign is Friday 14 November 2025 at 12pm.
