Latest newsletter from Suicide Prevention Scotland - October 2025
05 Nov 25
The team at Public Health Scotland have published the latest Suicide Prevention Scotland newsletter (October 2025).
Created for people working in suicide prevention, it provides a helpful round-up of all the latest news from across our wider network.
The latest edition opens with encouraging national statistics. In 2024 there was an 11% decrease in deaths by suicide from the previous year, as detailed in the National Records for Scotland data.
The second phase of our campaign, What if a conversation about suicide could save a life? has reached over 1.1 million people, and we are confident our content has helped to increase conversations about suicide.
For children and young people, a new Enabling Conversations Toolkit has been launched in partnership with V&A Dundee, co-designed with young people, parents, and professionals.
To celebrate the launch of this year’s Time, Space and Compassion practice stories, an in person event will take place on 17 November.
It will bring together the Participation Network, held by Children in Scotland, and the Local Children and Young People Suicide Prevention Forum held in partnership with COSLA and Public Health Scotland.
The newsletter also detailed the launch of the Local Suicide Prevention Planning and Implementation Toolkit, designed to support local areas in developing and delivering their suicide prevention action plans.
The workforce and practice section introduces the new You First podcast series, which offers practical suggestions and lived experience insights to support wellbeing and reduce vicarious trauma.
Upcoming learning opportunities include a free online webinar on 18 November, focusing on Suicide Prevention in Rural Areas, part of the Rural Social Work Forum series.
The latest edition also features football events in South Lanarkshire helping people to talk about suicide prevention, the introduction of a new docuseries ‘Fae the source’ and North Ayrshire RAMH Wellbeing & Recovery College proudly receiving an award for ‘thinking outside the box’.
